I am using the beautiful Malam batiks from Jinny Beyer.
They are so soft and are such beautiful colours.
When I am making a lonestar with a lot of different coloured fabric making up the 6 main coloured sections I put them in piles so its easy to choose them.
I then lay them out in the sequence I want them to be sewn onto the lonestar interfacing making sure that I don’t have two dark fabrics either next to each other or on top of each other. This applies to two light coloured fabrics too!
I lay them on the ironing board and iron down one then pin the next one, sew it down, come back and iron it down and then start again.
Sew the background to the points and join 4 points together.
It is really important that you square up the quilt now before you add the additional top and middle pieces.
once the top and middle sections are added you can trim off any excess fabric but your quilt top should be square.
This is as far as I have got so far………….
Okay I finally got back to it and finished the other side reversing the middle rectangles.
I just need too add the background to the star, square up the right section and then attach the end strip, cut off excess fabric and then join the two halves together.
Finished, now to quilt, I am thinking gold thread!!

Hello Charlotte,
So glad this helped, have you finished your quilt?
Carol says
Love how you did your lone star. I have never seen it done this way before. Who sells the fusible? What is it called?
Many thanks.
Also, would love to know what kind of thread and color used here as it accented all of the pieces equally.

Hello Carol,
The fusible is sold by Quiltsmart and I use magnifico thread by superior.

Hello, May I ask , what kind of batting you used? Beautiful work, Beautifil quilts
Thank you
Millie
Carolyn Murfitt says
Hello Millie,
Thank you for your email, so sorry it took me so long to reply, I didnt see it until just now.
If I want a lot of loft to really show the quilting designs, I use hobbs 80/20 on the bottom and Hobbs wool on the top.
So two layers of batting.
Best wishes

This quilt is GORGEOUS! Just found your blog because I’m attempting a lonestar myself (am enchanted by all your beautiful work) and am so intrigued by what looks to be a paper piecing pattern for yours? I’m super new to quilting so forgive me if I’m not seeing things correctly, but the feed dogs on my machine are down and anything to keep the fabric from stretching as much as I can would be really helpful.
Thank you so much!

È stupenda! Vorrei fare anch’io una stella solitaria da 58″ ma i quadrati da tagliare in diagonale per lo sfondo che misura devono avere? Grazie mille se mi risponderai e complimenti per il tuo splendido lavoro.

The quilt is beautiful, I am new to quilting and would love to have this pattern so I can make it for my son. Where can I get it? Also – I noticed that you had a paper piece pattern to aid in the piecing of this. Where would I be able to get it? What size is the quilt when it is done? I appreciate any information you can share with me. I love your color selections.
Thank you so much for sharing.

Hello Kathy,
you can purchase the QuiltSmart lonestar pattern and it has my deconstructed pattern as well in the kit.
