This is such an easy process and yet gives such a great looking effect.
Choose your favourite fabrics.
Draw nice easy petals and leaves onto the visa flex, leaving enough room to cut around them.
Iron the visa flex on to the wrong side of the fabric, feel free to fussy cut.
Now cut out your lovely petals and leaves.
You can arrange them anyway you want but I think the easiest way is to draw a circle on to a piece of paper. Fold the paper into quarters and then eights. Lay the paper on to the middle of your fabric, I used a 100 cm square piece of fabric, I think thats about 36 inches. Now line up a petal with each mark on the paper and build from there. You can’t make a mistake, just have fun and enjoy how the fabrics work together.
Once you have an idea of your placement, peel the paper off the back of each piece and iron down. I used a mini clover iron, first time I have used it and it was perfect.
You can either attach the pieces by sewing down by hand, which is what I did the first time I appliquéd or sew using your machine.
This time I am going to attempt to sew them down with my longarm.
I decided to quilt this one freehand with a variegated gold thread on the longarm.
Lots of stops and starts and threads to bury.
Once all of the appliqué pieces were sewn down with the gold thread, I went around the pieces with a matching neutral thread.
What happens next……….. This happened, lots of feathers and pebbles.
I had a different idea of how I wanted to quilt this one but I ran out of time to properly formulate my idea. So I ended up going with something quite straight forward and predictable.
Quilted some feathers in the middle of the wreath and then filled it in with the pebbles and echoing.
The hint of purple light you can see in the top left corner is the black light, this makes it easier to see where I am quilting when quilting white thread on white fabric.
And here is the middle filled in.
Finally finished and she doesn’t look too bad!
Make sure if you make one you tag me on Instagram, I would love to see what you create!!
