Quite a few years ago I made my first applique wall hanging, it was the first time I had experimented with raw edge applique and I loved the whole process. This is the wall hanging.
So many quilters have asked if there was a pattern for this one, so I decided it was time to write one. My Harlequin Garland is based on this design but I made it a bit different by adding additional applique pieces to make the design a bit larger.
The whole process of finding the right fabric, drawing up the pieces onto the vliesofix and ironing them onto the fabric, cutting them out and laying them down onto the background is so much fun, I love it!
For the Harlequin Garland I chose a rainbow of colour for the design but as you can see by my first one, it does not have to be a rainbow, random works just fine.
Here are a few pics of the design as it came together.
Quilting really bought the design to life.
You can purchase this design as a download and as a paper pattern.
The acrylic templates are a perfect add on that can be used time and time again for other projects.

Your quilt is just breath taking ! The colours and designs leap off the quilt and the quilting brings it over the top!

Beautiful, I am so happy to have the pattern and the templates.
Did you made this one with raw-edge applique? If so, how do you sew it on the quilt?
Thank you
Carolyn Murfitt says
Hello Jeanine,
Yes I made this one using the raw edge applique technique. I sewed around each piece with a straight stitch.
Best wishes
Carolyn
