With this quilt I wanted to combine my love of appliqué flowers and pieced blocks.
There is a lot going on with this quilt but it is not difficult to put together.
The steps are as follows:
- Choose your fabric
- Decide on your preferred appliqué method and make your flowers.
- Sew your appliqué flowers onto the background squares.
- Piece your quilt.
- Your quilt is now ready for quilting.
I chose 12 of my favourite Anna Maria Horner fabrics for the pieced background. I also used some of these fabrics for the appliqué flowers and added some additional fabrics for the appliqué as well.
The pattern comes with a fabric swatch table so you can organise all of your fabrics easily.
I chose the ‘Interfacing’ method of appliqué for this quilt but you could choose either raw edge or needle turn appliqué if that is your preferred method.
I love making the flowers…..seeing them come together is so rewarding.
Sewing the appliqué onto the smaller background blocks prior to piecing makes it a lot easier to sew the flowers down.
The pieced background is made up of three blocks: four corners, four joining and one centre block.
There are full coloured instructions and diagrams to tell you where to place each fabric, so there is no guess work, makes it a breeze to put together.
I just love how dark and moody this quilt is, next I am going to make another one using Art Gallery florals and a low volume background, I think it will be perfect spring quilt.
The pattern has printed templates so you can make you own or you can purchase the acrylic templates for this pattern from my shop.
I really enjoyed custom quilting this one, I added lots of quilted blossoms to all to the background and lots of straight lines to the patterned floral fabric.
You can grab the pattern and acrylic templates for this one in my shop, just click the link below.
