This is my first ‘Block’ quilt pattern and it was so fun to make and I really enjoyed writing the pattern for this one.
The main block is divided up into four ‘corner blocks’, four ‘joining blocks’ plus a ‘centre star’ block. The pattern has lots of colour diagrams so you can easily put this one together. I have also added instructions on where to place each fabric and in which direction to iron each seam. There is no guess work in this pattern.
I had a couple of pattern testers including my middle daughter Kate, who has never made a quilt before and she had no trouble putting it together, so we are on track with the instructions.
The first quilt I made using Hoffman 1895 Batiks, I love the colour wash effect you get with them.
I added a bit of Tula Pink and Anna Maria Horner fabric for the centre’s and stars.
The colours really pop against this dark blue background.
I custom quilted this one with some modern feathers just to add some texture to the batiks.
The next one I made with Kaffe Fassett fabric
I have quite the stash but only small amounts in a lot of the older ranges, so this quilt was perfect to use them up. Each main block uses 4 fat eighths and the instructions illustrate where to put each fabric to create this random effect.
I love this one and I think it would have been perfect with a white background too.
I am currently making one with a white background and using my stash of Anna Maria Horner fabric, beware this pattern can be quite addictive :).
I quilted this one with a quick edge to edge called Allium, I think the big swirls were perfect for this one.
