Today I am loading Suzannah’s Meadow Quilt.
She purchased the batik fabrics when she went to Bali so we have decided to go with a Bali inspired quilting design.
These batiks are beautiful, decided to go with an orange peel in the centre blocks, which was a common theme in the bali wood sculptures and fabric.
The fabric and aurifil thread are just shimmering in the sunlight, the petals have simple lines that create movement which I think is important in a quilting design.
I fall in love with the fabric in each block as I quilt, I have gone back and quilted the missing curves!
I find them so hard to see but now I know the secret is to make sure there is a complete circle.
Another favourite block and yes more missing curves!
Found all of my missing curves and now I have changed the thread to red and putting a flower in the middle of the petals based on the flowers in the wood carvings, I am basing this design on.
Its all coming together.
Loving all the different quilting working together.
Just beautiful!
More photos to follow as I progress……and here they are!
I quilted large swirly lily type flowers in the borders…..
and then filled in the border with lots of little swirls to give it lots of quilty texture!
This is the first time I have taken off a quilt and flipped it so I could do the side borders all in one.
It was definitely a good idea because this design is based on the large swirls all flowing together.
I broke up the swirls in the border with orange peels so it would tie in with the middle section of the quilt and add a little extra something to the border.
Finally she is finished and I think she looks pretty great!
