I got totally lost in creating this quilt design. Making each flower block brought me so much joy that I kind of got carried away with all the different choices.
At first, I went with warm batik colors on various shades of grey for a raw edge quilt. Then, I switched things up with cool-toned batiks, matched with a black batik background. And, oh boy, before I knew it, I noticed my scrap jars were overflowing. That’s when I embarked on a brand-new scrap Little Petals quilt. And wait, there’s more – I also dove into crafting a version with solid colors. The quilt pattern offers endless possibilities.
When choosing your fabrics for the flowers please note:
One Fat 16th = One flower – if using the interfacing method of appliqué or needle turn method.
One Fat 16th = Two flowers – if using the raw edge method of appliqué.
If you would like to make the quilt top completely from Fat 8ths for the flowers, centre circles and background fabric see the fabric requirements at the back of the pattern. (These fabric requirements are for the interfacing method, they will be a generous amount for the raw edge appliqué method.)
I am not normally a scrap quilter but I found these scrappy blocks quite addictive.
I love this solid version too, this quilt top is made from Fat Eighths, cutting instructions for this one are included in the pattern also.
The pattern has instructions for three types of applique methods, four quilt sizes and lots of fabric options.
You’ll find printed templates and instructions with the pattern, but I’ve also put together a lovely set of acrylic templates for it. These templates even include a nifty little circle placement guide to make sure your petals line up perfectly.
