I have been busily making curved quilts and completely forgot my love of appliqué….that was until I got the idea for this new quilt pattern.
Only two petal shapes and one little circle make up this design and they are all appliquéd onto manageable background squares. The blocks are then sewn together to make a baby quilt, large lap quilt and a king size quilt.
I use a light to medium (non woven) fusible interfacing and my favourite fabrics to make lots of petals. There are instructions for the interfacing method of appliqué plus both raw edge and needle turn in the pattern instructions.
I also have a tutorial on my YouTube channel for the interfacing method of appliqué.
The baby quilt size is made up of four blocks, I used Sally Kellys new range Eden and mixed in some Solstice fabric from her previous range. I love the way the fabrics pop on the dark blue background.
Currently I am working on a Large Lap quilt using the same fabrics but this time on a light background, the background reminds me of green grass, so I thought it would be perfect for this spring quilt.
The baby quilt I custom quilted but this next one, I will do a simple floral edge to edge quilting design over the top of the appliqué. I love to custom quilt but it is definitely not necessary for a quilt that is going to be used and washed all of the time like a baby quilt.
I love this quilt so much and it comes together quite quickly, that I already have my fabric picked out for the next one….I just have to finish quilting the large lap quilt first.
The next one will be another baby quilt and I am doing it in these Australian fabrics, my centre squares and centre circles are going to be a bright orange, the perfect pop of colour!
This new pattern will be available on the 18th of February 2022 and will have templates for sale if you prefer them to making your own. Sign up to my newsletter and keep a look out in you inbox for a discount code for this new pattern.

This is so beautiful. Do you have a pattern for this in lap size? What size is the baby quilt?

I think that your new quilt is beautiful but I think that the quilt is very overpowering for a little baby. You need something softer. It will make a great wall quilt.
Carolyn Murfitt says
Hello Judy,
Thank you for your comment, the quilt would look lovely in a soft linen and liberty petals.

Lynne says
Absolutely beautiful. Do you put a little batting in the petals before appliquéing them to get that puffy look?
Carolyn Murfitt says
Hello Lynne,
the reason for the puffy look is I use a double layer of batting when I quilt, this gives the petals the extra bit of puff.

Love this quilt! Can’t wait to get the pattern! I’ve got a lot to finish so I can be ready 😊. Did you stuff the petals? They are so puffy ❤️
Carolyn Murfitt says
Hello Wendy,
the petals aren’t stuffed but i have used a double thickness of batting which gives it the puff.
